Punggol Point Light Rapid Transit (LRT) station will open service this coming Thursday (29 Dec), SBS Transit said in a statement today (19 Dec).
It will join Sam Kee Station (PW1), Nibong Station (PW5), Sumang Station (PW6), Soo Teck Station (PW7) and Punggol Town Centre Station on the West Loop of the Punggol LRT circuit.
From 3pm daily, the trains will run from PW1 to Punggol Town Centre Station, in a continuous loop. From 3pm to closing time, the trains will travel in the opposite direction, from Punggol Town Centre Station to Sam Kee Station (PW1).
This service is said to help to make Coney Island to be reached more easily by visitors. The current travelling time from Punggol LRT to the area by bus is about 30 minutes.
Train services and operating hours will not be affected by the opening of the station on the west loop of the Punggol LRT system, SBS Transit’s statement said.
The timings of the first and last train will remain the same and trains will operate at a frequency of between seven and eight minutes. From Mondays to Saturdays, operations will begin at 5.18am and end at 12.40am. On Sundays and public holidays, the service will run from 5.38am to 12.40am. On the evenings of public holidays, the last train leaves Punggol Town Center at 1.07am.
A 20-minute walk away from Punggol Settlement, The Punggol Point station is where people visit for a wide selection of restaurants or drop by the Jomando Adventure & Recreations to rent a bike.
The LRT stations for the Punggol west loop and Teck Lee and Samudera stations will be opened when the two stations’ surrounding areas are developed, SBS Transit informed.
