An aeroplane from budget airline Scoot, was filmed with sparks emitting from one of the engines, situated on the right. The plane has since returned to Singapore from Sydney on Saturday (26 November).

Shin Min Daily News reported that passengers on flight TZ001 heard a loud sound from the Boeing 7878 Dreamliner before they noticed that there were sparks coming out from the engine.

The video was posted by one of a passenger’s friend on a social media. The video was also posted on YouTube.

According to The Straits Times, Scoot’s flight crew contacted the Singapore Air Traffic Control Centre and requested fire services to be on stand-by upon landing and as the aircraft landed as scheduled, the fire services subsequently confirmed that there was no engine fire.

Scoot spokesperson said in a statement on Monday evening that the plane encountered “an incident during the descent into Singapore which necessitated a shut-down of the right engine”.

The spokesperson said, “Our flight crew exercised due diligence and immediately contacted Singapore’s Air Traffic Control while requesting for fire services to be on standby on landing. The aircraft landed as scheduled without incident and fire services subsequently confirmed that there was no engine fire.”

“The cause of the incident is currently under investigation. Safety is of utmost importance to Scoot and we will spare no effort to ensure the well-being of our guests,” Scoot added.
