Ministry of Foreign Affair announced that there is no Singaporean known to have been affected In the earthquake disaster that hit off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture on 22 November.

On Tuesday morning, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck off Japan’s Honshu island, prompting officials to issue tsunami warnings.

In its update release, MFA said the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo has contacted registered Singaporeans in the affected regions. It urged Singaporeans who are planning to travel to or are living in the affected regions should monitor the news closely and follow the advice of the local authorities, as aftershocks are common after a major earthquake

MFA said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has lifted all tsunami warnings and advisories at 12.50pm and there is no longer a tsunami threat.

The ministry also advised Singaporeans to stay in touch with their family and friends.
