Global University Employability Ranking (GUER) 2016 report, published on 16 November 2016 by Times Higher Education (THE) states that graduates of the National University of Singapore (NUS), are positioned as 15th most employable in the world this year, stepping up two spots from last year,

This was also shared by NUS on its Facebook post on 17 Nov.

NUS is the third Asian higher education institution among the world’s top 20 for graduate employability; the first is Japan, the second is Hong Kong and the fourth is China.

The GUER reveals which universities recruiters at top companies think are the best at preparing students for the workplace.

The survey covered 150 universities from 34 different countries, from the US in the west to Japan in the east. Employers voted both for institutions in their own country and universities around the world if they recruit internationally.

This year’s GUER survey was conducted with 2,500 recruiters from 20 countries, along with a second panel of 3,500 international managers all over the world.

The respondents were asked to define what they looked for in graduates and which universities they believed produced the most employable graduates. Participating companies covered all major business sectors, had more than 5,000 employees each and recruited more than 50 graduates yearly.

Professor Tan Eng Chye, NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost said in the achievement,  “We are pleased that NUS graduates continue to be highly sought after by employers around the world. NUS’ education stresses academic rigour, experiential and global learning, and real-world relevance.”

“Over the past few years, we have also intensified our efforts to prepare our students for a dynamic, fast-changing workplace of the future. The latest initiative is the introduction of the unique Roots and Wings programme that is designed to equip students with intra- and interpersonal skills that are essential for graduates to be future-ready.”

“We are also supplementing this by giving students global and experiential learning through highly popular programmes such as the NUS Overseas Colleges programme where students have a chance to work in fast-growing companies in high-tech hot spots around the world,” Professor Tan said.

He added that the University will continue to pioneer fresh approaches to implant in students a future-ready mindset, so that NUS graduates will continue to excel at work and make valuable contributions to society.

NUS also ranked top in Asia and 24th in the world in the THE World University Rankings earlier this year.

Today reported that Nanyang Technological University came in 101st this year, the only other Singapore school placed among the 150 institutions in the Times Higher Education’s (THE) latest GUER, up 16 places from the 117th spot last year.

The GUER 2016 was commissioned by a French human resource consulting agency, Emerging, and conducted in April 2016 by European research agency, Trendence.
