National Environment Agency (NEA) has announced that it will be revising the refuse collection fees for households, in line with the higher cost of providing refuse collection services.

NEA stated that it has appointed Public Waste Collectors (PWCs) to collect refuse from households via open tenders. Each household pays its PWC a monthly refuse collection fee through its monthly utility bill.

The current refuse collection fees are $7.49 for households living in apartments (i.e. HDB flats and condominiums that have not opted out of the public waste collection scheme) and $24.81 for households living in landed premises for all sectors in Singapore (both fees inclusive of GST).

NEA highlighted that due to higher operating costs, such as that for manpower, the monthly refuse collection fees will be raised to $8.25 for apartments and $27.47 for landed premises, with effect from 1 January 2017 (both fees inclusive of GST).

It also said that the refuse collection fees for households are reviewed on a regular basis, and the next review is scheduled for January 2019.
