Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has announced that a male Malaysian rider and his male Malaysian pillion rider were arrested for possessing drugs worth about $82,000.

ICA said that the suspects were stopped by ICA officers for further checks upon arrival at the Woodlands Checkpoint on Tuesday (1 November) at about 7am.

ICA said that its officers uncovered about 360g of ‘Ice’, 2,999 Erimin-5 tablets, and 260 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets’ from under the seat of the Malaysia-registered motorcycle in the course of inspection.

The motorcyclist and his pillion rider, both 24, were arrested and referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). It said that investigations are ongoing.

The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of methamphetamine trafficked exceeds 250g. 250g of methamphetamine is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 185 abusers for a week.

CNB’s operations on the rise, or is it just drugs?

During an 11-day island-wide operation conducted in the middle of October 2016, CNB arrested 92 suspects of drugs offenders and seized about 315 g of heroin, 136 g of ‘Ice’, 113 g of ketamine, 41 g of cannabis, 232 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets and 97 Erimin-5 tablets.

The operation was supported by the Singapore Police Force and areas covered included Ang Mo Kio, Balestier, Bishan, Bukit Merah, Hougang, Jurong, Pasir Ris, Punggol, Senja, Tampines, Toa Payoh, Woodlands and Yishun.

On 23 September, CNB crippled a syndicate, two Singaporeans and one Malaysian, at Geylang area, seizing over $20,000 in cash, about 1.1kg of methamphetamine (or ‘Ice’), about 1kg of Ketamine, more than 50 Ecstasy tablets and 180 Erimin-5 tablets worth a total of over S$218,000.

Last month, on 26 October, The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) dismantled a drug syndicate in an operation, seizing about 2.3kg of heroin, 260g of ‘Ice’, 470 Erimin-5 tablets and more than 100 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, estimated to be worth more than S$210,000.
