Defence Minister, Ng Eng Hen, posted in his Facebook a commendation letter from a member of public, Madam Loh Ngiuk Lan, who had written in about the help that she got from six National Servicemen on 8 October 2016.

Madam Loh wrote that she and her wheel-chair bound mother in law were going to Swatow Restaurant at Toa Payoh but was stuck on the ground floor because the lift leading to the floor of the restaurant was not working.

As they were deliberating what to do, six servicemen from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), Sembawang Base walked by and offered their help to carry up Mdm Loh’s mother in law on her wheel-chair to the restaurant by the stairs. They even offered to bring her back downstair when they had finished.

Minister Eng wrote on his post, “Earlier this month, six servicemen from The Republic of Singapore Air Force carried Mdm Loh’s 85-year-old mother-in-law up the stairs to Swatow Seafood Restaurant when the lift was not working. She later wrote in to commend them.”

Mdm Loh was very grateful and saluted the RSAF servicemen, she wrote, “This civic mindedness and act of kindness must not be ignored but should be applauded.”
