Singaporean male feared to be drown while kayaking in Sungai Tesong, Malaysia

IPOH Malaysia – A Singaporean man is feared drowned in Sungai Tesong at Felda Sungai Klah near Sungkai, while kayaking yesterday with six friends.

Koh Kah Wei (30), the Singaporean kayaker, fell overboard and was swept away by the river’s strong current.when his kayak suddenly overturned.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a distress call was received on Saturday at about 4.50pm.

Bidor fire station chief Nadzir Abd Razak said, he had been with a group of visitors from Singapore taking part in the kayaking adventure in Sungai Tesong.

“His kayak hit a piece of driftwood and overturned, throwing him into the water. His friends tried to help but failed as the current was swift,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

“We have conducted a surface search near at the area where the victim fell as well as on the riverbank,” he said.

Abd Razak said the water level at the river had risen due to heavy rain.

Zulkifli Lim, a netizen commented in the post of Star Online Facebook,  “RIP. Please put off all water activities as warned by authorities. Some people just don’t bother about it until too late. …  Please think about your loved ones. No matter how strong you are, no wife and children is strong enough to accept the loss of their hubby and dad.”

The search resumed this morning after being called off yesterday due to swift currents, heavy rain and fading light
