Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is currently in Thailand, Bangkok and will be there from 20 to 21 Oct to pay his respects to the late Thai King, Bhumibol Adulyadej, at the Grand Palace.
The Singapore Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release that Mr Lee will also meet Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha to deliver his condolences.
Mr Lee will be accompanied by Ms Ho Ching and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the visit.
The much revered Thai King Bhumibol passed away on 13 Oct at the age of 88 after prolonged hospital treatments.
After returning home from Australia early Friday (14 Oct), Mr Lee wrote on his Facebook, “On behalf of Singapore, I offer my deepest condolences to the Royal Family and people of Thailand on their sad loss.”
Mr Lee noted that King Bhumibol was much beloved and revered by his people, he dedicated himself wholly to his country and to improve people’s lives.
He also remarked that the king was a ‘most gracious host’ when he last met him in Hua Hin, Thailand, in 2009 during the ASEAN Summit.
