The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Singapore posted a video on Tuesday (4 October) showing a SPCA officer rescuing a cat which stranded on the outside ledge of a 12-story HDB flat in Ang Mo Kio.

SPCA said that it received a call from a concerned member of the public on Monday (3 October) who notified it of the kitten.

When its rescue officer, Yao Huang, arrived at the block, there were already two officers from Ang Mo Kio North neighbourhood police centre there. Yao Huang proceeded to the unit on the 12th storey, while the police officers remained on the ground floor, with an opened blanket, to assist with the rescue mission.

Mr Yao used a pole to save the cat by clinging it around its body. Thankfully, Mr Yao finally managed to swiftly brought the kitten to safety in no time. The kitten was then reunited with its owner.

The owner was advised by the rescue officer to mesh up the windows and gate to prevent the kitten from slipping out of the unit and/or falling out of the windows.

A spokesperson of SPCA said that cats can be curious and added, “That’s why when we do adoption counselling for potential cat or kitten owners, one of the pre-requisites is that the house needs to be mesh. They need to send photo evidence (of that) before we allow any cats or kittens to be adopted by the potential adopter.”

One of the readers said that according to HDB rules, cats are not allowed in flats due to general difficulties to contain the animal within the flat.

HDB added that when it is allowed to roam indiscriminately, they tend to shed fur and defecate or urinate in public areas, and also make caterwauling sounds, which may cause inconvenience to neighbours.
