The Singapore Police Force (SPF) announced that it had arrested a 39-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of loanshark harassment.
The Police received a report on loan shark harassment on 22 September 2016, where a residential unit at Marsiling Lane was locked by a bicycle lock and affixed with a note with loanshark-related content.
Officers from Jurong Division held extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police Cameras (POLCAMs). Later that day, they established the identity of the man and arrested him at Woodlands Avenue 1.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment at Hougang, Punggol and Bukit Panjang housing estates. A mobile phone, a waist pouch, a cap, and pens were seized as case exhibits.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 24 September 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
