Human Resources (HR) Excellence Awards 2016 Singapore announced the finalists on its website on Tuesday (20 September).
In addition to the highest award of “Employer of the Year”, SMRT Corporation was also shortlisted in three other categories: Excellence in Learning and Development, Excellence in Employee Healthcare, and Excellence in Compensation and Benefits Strategy.
There are 24 categories in the annual HR awards, judged by over 60 seasoned regional heads of HR from around Asia, the HR Excellence Awards the only HR awards in Asia based on a peer review system.

SMRT is, however, facing flack for the sacking of two of its employees last week for the 22 March 2016 fatal train accident which claimed the lives of two of its staff, Mr Nasrulhudin Najumudin, 26, and Mr Muhammad Asyraf Ahmad Buhari, 24, who were SMRT maintenance workers trainees.
Mr Rahmat Mohd, 49, the train driver involved in the accident in March, had been assigned to a non-driving job after the accident. According to The Straits Times, he had been called to the SMRT office for an internal inquiry and dismissed thereafter.
On Monday (19 September), the National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU) stated in a media release that it had filed an appeal to the management of SMRT against the dismissal of its two drivers.
The SMRT had also been plagued by disruptions in the month of August and September which have caused major delays of up to 3 hours for commuters including a mysterious signaling fault on its Circle Line which it is addressing.
