24-year-old Yip clocked a timing of 1:00:33 in the S2 50m backstroke event, which is just 0.55 seconds short of the world record that she set earlier on 9 September, placing her first ahead of Feng Yazhu (China) who won the gold medal for this event at the London Games four years ago.

Yip is the first Singaporea athlete to obtain multiple gold medals in the Paralympics.

Yip’s two gold medal along with the bronze medal of Theresa Goh in the women’s SB4 100m breaststroke final, makes three for the total medal count for Team Singapore at the Rio Paralympics 2016.
