Are you a savvy shopper, a gourmand, or a fun-loving millenial? The right credit card for you might also come with free luggage.

When choosing a credit card, people always told to focus on the card’s benefits, not the welcome offers.

The best credit card for you should reward you for things you already spend on.

But it’s hard to maintain this sort of rational decision-making when a flashy credit card comes with equally flashy free luggage.

After all, aren’t you saving S$300-S$900 on new luggage by going for the welcome offer?

What most Singaporeans don’t realise is that you must meet certain terms and conditions before claiming the luggage. This usually means spending a minimum amount on the credit card you applied for.

If you didn’t pay attention to what the card itself does, you could be spending hundreds of dollars and missing out on air miles, cashback, or rewards points.

So we’re making it easier for you by rounding up all the credit cards with free luggage welcome offers, and what kind of Singaporean can benefit most from it.

For the Savvy Shopper: ANZ Optimum World MasterCard

Most cash rebate credit cards in Singapore only give rebates for a particular type of spend. But the ANZ Optimum World MasterCard lets you decide where your savings should go.

Simply choose one of four categories at the start of each quarter:

  • Shopping (fashion boutiques online and offline),
  • Dining,
  • Groceries,
  • Travel (airlines, agencies, online travel portals).

You get 5 percent unlimited cashback on your chosen category for the entire quarter, and 1 percent cashback on all other spend.

Savvy Shoppers can make the most out of this card by planning ahead. Analyse what you typically spend on at certain times of the year, and make sure to select your chosen category by the deadline.

Let’s say you’re going on a two-week holiday in December, and you want to start booking your tickets and accommodations by April. Because April falls under the second quarter, select the Travel category by 25 March to get 5 percent unlimited cashback on all your travel bookings in April.

The Luggage: 24” Luggage

In addition to helping you shave 5 percent off your trip, the ANZ Optimum World MasterCard also gives you a 24” hard shell luggage after meeting certain conditions (see below).
