The National Environment Agency (NEA) reported that the cases of Dengue had hiked between 28 August to 3 September 2016, with 311 cases of dengue being diagnosed, bringing the total number of the cases to 11,286 cases this year.
This is the first time since March that the cases had exceeded 300 cases mark in a weekly figure. As of 3 pm between 3 September and 4 September, 31 cases had been reported.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) warned that the number of cases this year may reach more than 30,000 cases, almost double the number of 11,286 cases reported in 2015. This means that this year will be marked as the highest cases report in history, exceeding 22,170 cases reported in 2013, based on the speed of infections in the start of the year.
NEA said that there are 59 active dengue clusters, higher than 58 clusters declared last week, 13 of which are classified as high risk. Bedok is the biggest cluster, with 50 cases reported, including 10 cases in the past fortnight.
This year, 7 people had died from this disease. The last one was a 79-year-old man who was hospitalised at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital (MENH).
According to NEA, dengue mosquitoes can transmit dengue fever, Zika, and also yellow fever and chikungunya.
