Seven men were arrested for illegal entry into Singapore by the Police Coast Guard yesterday.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Coast Guard took notice on five swimmers in the sea off Gedong, to the northwest of Singapore, very early in the morning on Wednesday, 31 August.
Two men were first discovered swimming towards the Republic at the sea off Woodlands Checkpoint at about 2.10am. The Police Coast Guard (PCG) arrested the swimmers, aged 31 and 36 at around 2.25am.
At about 3.10am, the five men, aged between 19 and 32, were all arrested.
Commander of the Police Coast Guard Hsu Sin Yun said, “The close collaboration between the police and ICA which resulted in these successful arrests reaffirms our determination and concerted efforts to stamp out any unlawful attempts to enter Singapore.”
“PCG will continue to work closely with agencies concerned to ensure the Singapore waters are safe and secure.”
