The Singapore Police Force has announced on its Facebook page that there will be another ‘Exercise Heartbeat’ on Friday (2 September).

Tomorrow, together with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and members of the Safety and Security Watch Group, the Singapore Police Force again will conduct an emergency preparedness exercise codenamed ‘Exercise Heartbeat’ at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay.

The exercise is set to take place from 8.30am to 11.00am.

There will be signages indicating ‘Exercise-In-Progress’ on display, and cordons will be set up within the exercise location.

Members of the public are advised not to be alarmed by the loud sounds and exercise activities; blanks, thunder flashes and fire and smoke simulators will be used during the Exercise.

SPF states that the aim of this exercise is to help Singapore’s business community be prepared for terrorist attack scenarios. Members of the public may call the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000 if they have further queries.

Exercise Heartbeat was also conducted in Singapore in November last year.

Various scenarios were carried out by the Home Team, one such exercise was carried out with a simulated chemical agent attack at One Marina Boulevard (OMB). In the event of chemical attacks, although invisible to the naked eye, but the effects of the gas on people can be seen. SCDFofficers are trained to respond within 8 minutes from the moment an emergency call is received.

Another scenario was an explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED), followed by the confrontation with a lone gunman at Esplanade Park. Also, a simulated terrorist swarm attack was held at Toa Payoh HDB Hub.

The last scenario last year during the exercise. was a simulated suicide bomber and gunman attack held at Sentosa Golf Club and Sentosa Cove Village.
