The Prime Minister Office (PMO) has announced the funeral arrangements for the late president Mr S R Nathan on Monday (22 August).
The sixth and longest-serving president of the country passed away on Monday (22 August) at 9.48 pm at Singapore General Hospital at the age of 92.
Mr Nathan was sworn in as the sixth President of Singapore on 1 September 1999. He was elected President without contest in both Presidential elections in 1999 and 2005.
According to PMO’s website, all the government building would be flown the State flag at half-mast from Tuesday (23 August) to Friday (26 August).
Istana would be providing condolence boards for those who would like to pen their tributes to the late Mr Nathan, starting from 6.00am on 23 August. All Overseas Missions would also provide the condolence boards for overseas Singaporeans and friends.
From Thursday (25 August) at 10.00 am to Friday (26 August) at 12.00 pm, the body of the late Mr Nathan would be lie in state at Parliament House.
The Parliament House will be open for members of public who wish to pay their last respect on Thursday (25 August) from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm.
Members of diplomatic corps and other officials may pay their last respects on Friday (26 August) from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm.
On Friday (26 August), a State Funeral Service would be held at the University Cultural Centre (NUS). Mr Nathan’s family, friends and former colleagues, the President, Cabinet Ministers, MPs, civil servants as well as Singaporeans from all walks of life would be attended the ceremony.
Private cremation ceremony will be held at Mandai Crematorium.
