In a news release on 19 August, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) stated that a 40-year-old man was arrested for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run accident at Newton Food Centre.

The accident happened on 8 August at about 12.46 pm that day. Police received a call asking for their assistance on the accident took place at the carpark of Newton Food Centre.

The driver was said to have driven his car in the victim’s direction. He then sped off after the accident and damaged another vehicle in his attempt to run away.

The officers of Tanglin Division held an extensive investigation which led them to the arresting of the suspect at Bukit Batok on Wednesday (17 August).

He was reported to have used fake number plates to evade detection.

The police also said that the man was also committed multiple traffic offences islandwide.

The man will be charged on Friday. If convicted, the offence of the rash act causing hurt carries an imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.
