Fire broke out at about 10 am this morning at a bar, Penny Black which is located at 27 Boat Quay.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force had earlier posted on its Facebook page about the incident, saying that one staff suffered a minor burn injury. However, the staff refused to be taken to the hospital.
The SCDF said that the fire was involved the combustion of the 2nd floor kitchen’s content.
2 fire bikes, 1 fire engine, 2 red rhinos, 1 support vehicle and 1 ambulance were dispatched by the SCDF to extinguish the fire. It is still holding an investigation to find the cause of the incident.
A couple of Twitter posts showed the smoke that soared.
According to Channel News Asia, pub owner Bjorn Seegers have stated that the fire was caused by deep fryer. He said, ” The incident was reported to the SCDF by the staff. They all followed protocol and the fire was put out within 20 minutes. All was contained pretty quickly.”
Despite the fact that the damage was minimal, the pub still has to follow some procedures, such as getting licensed electrical workers to carry out a check.
The kitchen will run as usual but no food will be served because the kitchen will be closed for renovation.
