Wishing Bukit Batok residents and bus captains a happy May Day, PAP candidate for the Bukit Batok By-election, Mr Murali Pillai addresses the Community Job Placement Scheme he has proposed as part of his manifesto.
He explained that the scheme would entail tapping on the networks of community volunteers, Bukit Batok residents, and his own business contacts to help residents who are facing difficulty securing a job.

Referring to the examples he shared during the previous evening’s election rally, Mr Murali revealed that one of the persons he named who had been retired and wanted to continue working had been able to get several job opportunities.
He also explained that the other person he named (a person who lost her job) has been put in touch with a mentor who conducts skills retraining courses at SMU who is guiding her on the steps needed to take on a different job scope.
That evening, radio channels reported about his morning walkabout which was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam and added that at least two residents have been assisted by the scheme.
A commenter on Today’s page noted that there is already a career centre just a stop away from Bukit Batok Mrt Station, “He doesnt know there’s already career ctr within the jurong grc (that he so loves to be “sheltered” by) just 1 mrt stn from bt batok, that provide job & traiing assistance leh.”

Another commenter cheekily wrote, “Murali, the whole of Singapore faces job losses. Can ask your supportive bosses who is campaigning with you the past week to look into it too. Don’t want my MP to screw around then the government will look into my constituency. Can?”
