Pink Dot SG, Singapore’s annual rally in support of the Freedom to Love regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, looks forward to its return to Hong Lim Park for the eighth year this coming 4 June 2016.
Announcing this event, organisers today unveiled a refreshed event format, massive support from a record number of Corporate Sponsors, new Ambassadors, three Campaign Videos, and an exhilarating line-up for this year’s Pink Dot Concert.
This year, Pink Dot SG celebrates the everyday heroes – people from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds – who are changing the lives of people around them through everyday acts of love, compassion and understanding. Pink Dot SG recognises that such gestures contribute immensely toward shaping Singapore into a more loving and inclusive place.
In line with celebrating our everyday heroes, and its goal this year to create a more visible form of expression, Pink Dot SG will once again become a day-time event. After four years lighting up the Speakers’ Corner in a sea of pink lights, Pink Dot SG will this year commemorate Singaporeans and Permanent Residents – the people with the greatest stake in the future of Singapore – through a demonstration of placards.
For the first time since Pink Dot’s inception in 2009, Singaporeans and PRs will get to play a more active role in declaring their support for the Freedom to Love, by penning down their own messages of love and support onto pink placards. The rally will then culminate with the raising of these placards in a united statement for inclusivity.
Before the rally, other familiar activities such as the iconic Pink Dot Concert, Community Tent, and Community Voices will still be held to inform and entertain attendees. Foreigners are more than welcome to enjoy these activities and observe the rally.

2016 sees the largest-ever turn-out of corporate support for Pink Dot SG, with a total of 18 Corporate Sponsors lending their support, up from nine the previous year. Returning sponsors include Google, Barclays, J. P. Morgan, The Gunnery, Goldman Sachs, BP, Bloomberg, and Twitter. This year, they are joined by Apple, Clifford Chance and Cavenagh Law, Facebook, General Electric,Gravitate, Infinite Frameworks, Microsoft, NBCUniversal, PS.Cafe and Visa.

Leading the charge to bring Pink Dot 2016 to the wider community are this year’s Ambassadors: television host and writer Anita Kapoor; comedian, singer and actress Liu Ling Ling; as well as rapper, music producer and film-maker ShiGGa Shay.
Complementing the Ambassadors in the lead-up to the event, this year’s campaign videos – three in total – will cast the spotlight on three everyday heroes who have gone out of their way to positively affect the lives of their LGBT friends.

Put together by three Singaporean filmmakers – He Shuming, Koo Chia Meng, and Sun Koh – each video examines powerful, heartfelt stories from real life of how gestures of love and understanding, both big and small, can lead to some very significant, life-changing outcomes.
The annual Pink Dot Concert is set to be a crowd-pleaser this year as well, with an eclectic range of performances. Pink Dot 2016 Ambassadors ShiGGa Shay and Liu Ling Ling will fire up the crowd with their vocal performances, and Pink Dot 2015 Ambassador Hirzi will make a fabulous return to the Pink Dot Concert stage. Making their appearances at the Pink Dot Concert for the first time are pop/soul artist Gareth Fernandez, singer-songwriter Charlie Lim, A Cappella group MiCappella, pop/funk/soul artist Dru Chen, and singer Vanessa Fernandez.
The iconic Community Tent will once again serve as a focal point for a diverse array of LGBT and LGBT-friendly organisations in Singapore, and help to build a community support network and inform attendees about LGBT issues. 2016 sees the third year of the Community Voices segment after its introduction in 2014, in which members of the LGBT community as well as straight allies are invited to speak about LGBT issues.
Paerin Choa, Pink Dot SG Spokesperson said, “This year, Pink Dot is making a renewed push towards fostering an inclusive society in Singapore by celebrating our everyday heroes. We have seen that a little understanding, a little compassion and a little love can make all the difference in someone else’s life. The change of format for our event aims to recognise that Singaporeans and Permanent Residents have the biggest stake in this country, and their voices of support are crucial in making Singapore a loving home for all, and where there truly is the Freedom to Love.”
