Train operator SMRT announced at 9.07pm on Thursday evening that 65 passengers aboard a train travelling towards Joo Koon from Pioneer MRT station were forced to detrain on to the tracks after a traction power trip occurred. SMRT then activated free bus services and shuttle buses between Joo Koon and Jurong East MRT stations.
SMRT also announced on its Facebook page that the Joo Koon and Pioneer stations were closed to retrieve the stalled trains.
Shortly after 10pm, SMRT said the faulty train was taken out of service and that it is investigating the cause.
The transport operator had earlier warned commuters about an additional travelling time of up to 20 minutes due to traction power fault via its Twitter account.
The disruption of service was over two hours long.
