Wow, what a week! First time in the history of Singapore that we have all constituencies being contested. Is this really the turning point for Singapore?
As a Singaporean who has left Singapore for 27 years (long time isn’t it?) and who has just returned, I cannot help but feel that I have come back at the right moment with exciting times ahead for Singapore.
I realised that while it is exciting for me, for others it is business as usual. Why should they change the situation? We are all doing just fine, we have progressed so well, we are a first world country. Why do we need to change?
We are just simply comfortable. Lee Hsien Loong even said that Singapore is a unicorn, unique. The PAP’s argument is that if the PAP is not in power, we are going to be in deep trouble. No one can govern Singapore better than them.
For the past 50 years, this indoctrination has convinced us that only the PAP can govern us forever and no change of political climate will be possible. Just leave it to PAP and not worry.
But with this attitude that some Singaporeans have, we have created a class of leaders that has never been seriously challenged. With just a walkover, they can get into office.
Seriously, do you really think that we can have business as usual? No change?
I vote for change because I believe that the slower we change, the more trouble we are in. We will have a generation that will not know how to fight, who will let anything get shoved down our throats. How will we develop leaders? We will only have followers.
Whether you like to change or not, the world is changing. And unicorns do not exist, except in magical realms. When we wake up from this magical dream and realise that unicorns do not exist, would it not be too late? Let’s make a difference for our future and vote wisely.
