Speaking to reporters during a SG50 funpack distribution at Toa Payoh on Sunday, PAP Organising Secretary Ng Eng Hen shared that the Peoples’ Action Party (PAP) will announce new candidates for the upcoming General Election after the National Day weekend.
Dr Ng, who is also Singapore’s Defence Minister and an MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC said that he did not want to reveal which new faces will be fielded in the General Election as he did not want to “increase the temperature”.
Dr Ng also said that he will contest in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, “unless you know something I don’t know”.
When asked if the election will be held in September, Dr Ng said: “If all the students think that this exam question is to come out, then the examiner may change the exam question, you know?”
Many has speculated that the election is likely to be held on 12 September, so as to allow the maximum leverage on the SG50 celebration mood for the incumbent government. Also, as polling day have been always held on Saturday, 12 September is the last Saturday before schools prepare for the examination period.
