Singapore Dance Theatre’s (SDT) will be presenting two brand new ballets and the specially commissioned 25th Anniversary work at Masterpiece in Motion, its international repertory season.

Happening from 21 & 22 August 2015, this season will be held at the Esplanade Theatre.

Be captivated by a visual spectacle of exquisite contemporary works, as SDT presents a triple-bill, featuring three works of international standards. In its sixth season, Masterpiece in Motion continues to bring in world-class ballets like the world premiere of Midnight Waltzes by François Klaus, as well as the company premiere of Bournonville Divertissement by legendary choreographer August Bournonville, staged by Dinna Bjorn.

SDT will also showcase one of its existing repertoire, Opus 25 by Edwaard Liang, which was first created for SDT’s 25th Anniversary Gala in 2013, and garnered much audience appreciation at Ballet Under the Stars last year.

“The purpose of SDT’s international repertory season, Masterpiece in Motion (MIM), is to bring in the most interesting ballets that are choreographed by well-regarded choreographers, with whom we can associate ourselves with. In the past six years, we have brought to stage works by Edwaard Liang, David Dawson, Nils Christe, Natalie Weir, Adrian Bunnett, François Klaus, Val Caniparoli, George Balanchine, and August Bournonville. Overall, Masterpiece in Motion is quite a world view in terms of distinction in the choreographic voices,” says Artistic Director Janek Schergen.

“The absolute essence of what SDT represents is found in the company premieres we bring in, as well as the works that are especially made for us. The most important element for building and strengthening our repertoire is getting the right balance so that both classical and contemporary repertoires can exist in harmony. At MIM, our audiences will be able to witness the growth and development of SDT. Through the repertory presented, one will be able to experience how the beauty and aristocratic nature of sophisticated choreography can bring out so much from our uniquely talented dancers.”
