“I am glad to announce that ROS (Registry of Societies) has been quite efficient this time round and our registration of People’s Power Party has been approved.”
The above was the simple announcement made by veteran politician Goh Meng Seng on his Facebook page.
This means that the new party will be able to field candidates for the coming General Elections, which some have speculated to be in September this year.
Mr Goh told media that he will likely reveal his candidates after Hari Raya Puasa, which falls on 17 July.
“You will definitely see the PPP in the next GE, that is a commitment,” he told media.
Mr Goh last contested in Tampines GRC in the 2011 General Elections, when he was still with the National Solidarity Party.
He also contested in Aljunied GRC in GE2006 when he was with the Workers’ Party.
Mr Goh declined to reveal the constituencies his party will be gunning for until he could meet with the other opposition leaders to discuss who contests where, but he has suggested earlier that he would not enter Aljunied GRC on the presumption that the WP is currently weakened in the ward.
PPP’s core values center on democracy and socialism, and aims to reform Singapore through efforts to balance power structures, sustainable economic development and social justice.
