Cherian-Lecture-Promo

Given the philosophical and historical context of how the freedom of expression has evolved over time in liberal democracies, how do we interpret and engage with the freedom of expression in a Singaporean context? This is the question that acclaimed writer and associate professor of journalism Cherian George will take on alongside an engaging panel comprised of filmmaker Ken Kwek, writer and activist Alex Au and moderator Teo You Yenn, herself an associate professor of sociology at Nanyang Technological University.

This lecture and panel discussion will be held at 3pm on the 4th of July at The Projector, an independent cinema located on the 5th floor of Golden Mile Tower (6001 Beach Road) and will last for approximately 3 hours with a single interval. It is organized in support of the 2015 Singapore Advocacy Awards and will be accompanied by a screening of Taxi Tehran by banned Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. Taxi Tehran has received critical acclaim around the world and is the Golden Bear award winner at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival.

Ticket sales will begin very soon, so be sure to stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates! Limited seats are available at S$35 each – do not miss out on this opportunity to hear some of the greatest thinkers of modern civil society share their insights on what is an ever more relevant and pressing issue today.
