Parents who swear by the Lego brand rejoice. According to images shared on social, the Ministry of Education will be giving out Lego sets to students to commemorate SG50.

It is not clear if all students will be receiving the sets, but images online from parents indicate that some have already received them.

The box art on the play set, named “Building My SG – Reflect, Celebrate, Inspire”, suggests that players can construct some local landmarks, such as the Changi Airport control tower, the Super Trees at Gardens by the Bay, and a bridge that seems to resemble Cavenagh Bridge.

The box has the MOE logo, with the text “A gift from Singapore to our youth”.

It is not clear if production of the sets is paid for by MOE or Lego, or if it will be available in stores in the future.

Comments online have been generally positive, with some saying that such toys are better than creating apps and video games for children, and also how it aptly reflects the progress that Singapore has made through the years.

Lego, while not exactly a building block of Singapore, has been used to inspire many in the SG50 celebrations.

Media has earlier reported that lego fans in Singapore have used the blocks in a project to put together icons of Singapore, including the Merlion, a conserved shophouse and a double-decker bus, which was part of a showcase called Past Forward and under the National Library Board’s Singapore Memory Project and its irememberSG fund.
