There have been 5 service disruptions on the North-South Line (NSL) this year. Out of which, 4 were serious enough for bus bridging services to be activated.

Yesterday’s incident on 23 February is also the 2nd occurrence of defective third rail between Yew Tee and Yishun this year.

1. Defective third rail disrupted service between Yew Tee and Kranji on 23 Feb 2015

On Monday 3 pm, a train was stalled due to a damaged third rail which supplies power to the trains. This resulted in no train service between Yew Tee and Kranji. Train service resumed after 4.5 hours, with speed restrictions imposed. Bus bridging services were activated and made available till 8 pm. SMRT first tweeted about the incident at 3 pm but only made public announcements on Facebook half an hour later.

2. Train fault disrupted service between Marina South Pier and City Hall on 3 Feb 2015

On Tuesday morning during peak hour commute, a train fault disrupted train services between City Hall and Marina South Pier in both directions. The incident started at 7:06 am. At 7:28 am, train service resumed from City Hall to Marina Bay but there was still no train service between Marina Bay and Marina South Pier. It took 50 minutes before train service was completely restored. Bus bridging services were activated and made available for more than an hour. SMRT tweeted about the delay but did not put up any explanation on their Facebook page.

3. Track fault disrupted service between Sembawang and Yio Chu Kang on 30 Jan 2015

On Friday morning, a track fault disrupted train services from Sembawang to Yio Chu Kang towards Marina Bay. The incident started at 9:51 am and lasted nearly 50 minutes. Bus bridging services were activated and made available for 1 hour. SMRT tweeted about the delay but did not put up any explanation on their Facebook page. SMRT had mistakenly tweeted that the fault was cleared even though the train was not moving.

4. Track fault disrupted service between Bishan and Ang Mo Kio on 23 Jan 2015

On Friday morning, a track fault disrupted train services from Bishan to Ang Mo Kio. The incident started at 5:37 am and lasted for 12 minutes. SMRT tweeted about the delay but did not put up any explanation on their Facebook page.

5. Defective third rail disrupted service between Admiralty and Yishun on 19 Jan 2015

On Monday afternoon, the third rail, which supplies power to the trains, was found to be defective between Admiralty and Yishun. As a result, train services were disrupted from Admiralty to Yishun in both directions. The incident started at 3:20 pm and lasted for 10 minutes. Bus bridging services were activated.
