SG50: 50 Things you can bet that are not going to change in 2015 (i.e. they are here to stay come what may)—hope to be proven wrong (not in any order of merit):

1. More new citizens and Permanent Residents
2. Increasing Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as the main growth strategy
3. Rising cost of living and healthcare
4. Rising costs of raising kids
5. Inflation at around 2.5% (well under control—hehe)
6. Status quo for CPF interest rates for various accounts
7. Zero, negative or low productivity growth
8. Subsidies (or lack of them) for middle-income households and those living in private homes
9. Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMETs) losing their jobs through natural attrition of by way of retrenchment only to be replaced by cheaper foreign labour force
10. Relentless search by jobless PMETs for equivalent jobs even at salaries much lower than what they previously earned
11. Jobless PMETs ending up as taxi drivers and security guards 
12. Over 40s not being able to find jobs (permanent or on contract) with decent starting salaries
13. No minimum wage laws
14. Part-time jobs paying $7 per hour or less
15. Training, training, training…the magic bullet to occupational woes at both the macro and micro levels
16. Underemployment of degree holders
17. Predominance of certain nationalities in banks and financial institutions, IT jobs, the retail and F&B sectors
18. Shortage of nursing staff
19. Senior citizens foraging for and collecting empty drink cans and carton boxes
20. Senior citizens clearing tables and washing dishes at hawker centres, foodcourts, and fastfood outlets
21. Competition from foreigners in begging, collection of carton boxes, selling packet tissue paper
22. $120 for a license to sell tissue paper
23. Abuse of Productivity & Innovation Credit (PIC) scheme
24. Streaming of primary school students through PSLE
25. Sponsorship and scholarships for foreign students
26. Shortage of hospital beds
27. Jam-packed trains during peak hours
28. MRT breakdowns—a matter of frequency and severity

新加坡航空展即将在下周登场,而中国八一飞行表演队不受新冠疫情影响按计划出演,国防部表示表演队将会定期接受体温和健康检测。 国防部指出,中国人民解放军空军旗下的八一飞行表演队已经主动采取积极的防范措施,包括在他们生活和受训的天津市,定期接受身体检查。 因此,相关部门得知表演队有份参与航空展后,最终决定让表演队按原定计划表演, 周三(5日),空军八一飞行表演队已抵达新加坡,而此次表演共动用9架飞机,100多名人员出演。 而新加坡航空展将于下周11日至16日,于樟宜展览中心举行,预计将近有五万名业界代表与六万名公众出席。 为加强预防新冠病毒传播,我国从本月起禁止此前14天曾到过中国大陆的各国旅客入境,也暂停签发各类签证给中国护照持有者。 主办方受询时指出,参展的中国队伍已积极采取健康检查和体温检测等措施,确定健康后才飞往我国,并强调这些措施已在我国发出禁令前就已经实施。 韩国飞行队宣布取消参演 航空展表演常客韩国“黑鹰”特技飞行队,则宣布取消航空展飞行演出,这导致今年的飞行表演减至只有中、美和我国参与。

新马代表团布城会谈 设工作小组商谈海事课题

新加坡外交部代表昨日赴马来西亚布城,新马两国外交部也成立工作小组,以研究涉及柔佛和新加坡港口界限的海事课题。 新马两国外交部于昨晚发表联合声明,指新加坡外交部常任秘书池伟强,和马外交部秘书长慕哈末沙鲁(Dato’ Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob)领导的代表团,昨日针对海事的法律和运作事宜进行研究和討论,以便缓和当前局势,以及为进一步的討论和谈判提供一个基础。 声明表示两国代表团展开建设性討论,並在完成相关建议之后,把建议提呈给两国外交部长参考。 这也是延续马国外长拿督赛夫丁和我国外长维文,在本月8日达成的共识,当时双方同意在领空议题上双方各让一步。马国暂缓宣布新山巴西古当上空成为永久禁飞区。而我国则暂缓在实里达机场启用仪表降落系统(ILS)。 原本暂缓令为期一个月,不过我国交通部长许文远于本月23日,与马交长陆兆福会面,并建议延长在暂缓措施期限,让两国官员有更充裕时间商谈,以达成双赢成果。对此,马方则建议把新期限定在3月31日。
