Dear readers of TOC,
Several commenters on the discussion threads on our website have been banned, because they have violated our moderation policy – https://www.theonlinecitizen.com/moderation-policy/.
We do not care to repeat the offences here, but rest assured that we have the necessary evidence to prove our point.
We also noticed that these offensive comments were targeted at articles we posted about Roy Ngerng. We can only summise that this is a deliberate attempt by a certain group of individuals to disrupt meaningful conversations on this issue. It is also clear to us that some have joined our discussion threads recently for only this purpose. Some have also used multiple monikers in an attempt to go around the ban and cheat our moderation system. We assure you that this has not worked.
It is also unfortunate that these few violators have forced us to adopt steps that now require commenters to adhere to more stringent methods of identifying themselves. We apologise if these steps have caused you any inconvenience.
The TOC editors have our hands full working on content for the website. We value civil and genuine comments on our site, so that we can have as open a discussion as possible. Nevertheless, we will not hesitate to take further action against violations.
On that note, we would also like to make a request: If you see an offensive comment or someone whom you think is purposely inciting distress among users, please do not take it upon yourself to attack them, as it only makes the situation worse and risk having yourself banned, too. Instead, report it to us using the flag icon on the upper-right corner of the offensive comment. We might take a while to get to it, but we will not ignore it.
Regards,
The TOC editorial team
