The arts scene in Singapore has been on the up in the last few years. No doubt, increased governmental support has helped in creating the infrastructure that is required for the arts to flourish. This development however could only come to pass because of the efforts of the many Singaporeans who have worked tirelessly and often on a voluntary basis to create awareness for the arts.
1548086_10152103128342153_7512089052087555882_oOne such group is the Vox Camerata. Founded in 2004, its purpose was to promote the love for singing through the gathering of people from all walks of life to discuss and learn more about music. Fast forward a decade and the Vox has still remained true to its mission of making choral music accessible to everyone who is keen to be involved, regardless of their musical knowledge or background.
Many people tend to shun the arts on the basis that it is “atas” or high class, assuming that such pursuits are beyond the grasp of the average Joe. It is on no small part due to the efforts from groups such as the Vox Camerata that this misconception is slowly being corrected.
The Vox Camerata has since its maiden recital at a function room in the Kampong Ubi Community Centre collaborated with St Margaret’s Secondary School in the musical “Anne of Green Gables” at the University Cultural Centre, the Singapore Police Force Band and Choir in its 80th anniversary concert at the Esplanade Concert Hall, the Australian Alumni Association and the Rock Opera organised by IMG Productions.
Hard work and sheer perseverance has certainly paid off and this year, the Vox Camerata celebrates its tenth anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, they will be performing s series of concerts. A major focal event for the ensemble’s calendar this year will be for a concert entitled “Decadanze” which is aimed to showcase the music that is symbolic to Vox Camerata’s journey to date. This will be performed at the Esplanade Concert Hall on the 31st of August at 7.00p.m. Tickets will be sold at $22.00 per ticket.
