The beginning of May will be greeted with Jane’s Walk, a series of free walking tours around Singapore. Named after urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs, Jane’s Walk invites people who live in Singapore to celebrate our walkable city, explore our neighbourhoods, discover our rich and diverse heritage and carry a live conversation with people who share a passion for the city we live in. Be a tourist in your own city, so to speak!
These free walking tours have grown from four walks in 2013, to 10 in this second run. The walks are organised and powered solely by volunteers, who have a passion for culture and knowledge, and a deep love for our lion city.

 The Road to Riches on Clemenceau Avenue || 10:00 am, 2 May 2014 Join May, a veteran guide, as she relates the fortunes of immigrants from China and India and their contributions to the local community. |
 The Fullerton Heritage Walk || 7:00 pm, 2 May 2014 Florence Minjoot, the resident Fullerton Heritage tour guide will lead a stroll along the Fullerton Heritage precinct at Marina Bay, the iconic cityscape of Singapore. |
 Geylang Serai & Joo Chiat Uncovered || 9:30 pm, 3 May 2014 Explore Singapore’s largest architecture conservation district and traipse through the backlanes, shortcuts and hidden gardens while snacking on street food that are popular with the neighbours on this food-walk. |
 Opium Hill Ramble || 2:45 pm, 3 May 2014 Join us for this trek in the forest of Opium Hill and experience what it must have been like for the invading Japanese soldiers as they fought their way uphill against a brave but outnumbered troop of the 1st Malay Regiment. |
 Tiong Bahru Charm || 5:30 pm, 3 May 2014 Despite the frenetic modernisation taking place in most of Singapore, Tiong Bahru remains an enclave, a throwback to old times. Art Deco apartments pre-date the current government. Owners of mom and pop shops still take time to make small talk and give freebies. |
 An Evening Stroll into the Past || 7:00 pm, 3 May 2014 Andrew & Beng will throw a light on the lives and times of the Pioneers at the turn of 20th century Singapore in this dusk to dark stroll through Bukit Brown Cemetery. Listen to stories of the pioneers that helped build Singapore, while looking out for night birds during this leisurely stroll. |
 Heritage walk from Botanic Gardens to Bukit Brown || 8:00 am, 4 May 2014 Join Claire and Bianca on a tour starting at the Botanic Gardens MRT. We’ll pass by the old Command House along Kheam Hock Road, and into the trail at Bukit Brown, exploring the remnants of a kampung after which we’ll cross over into the cemetery. |
 Love MacRitchie Walk at Venus Loop || 8:30 am, 4 May 2014 A walk to raise awareness MacRitchie’s rich wildlife and natural beauty, and help conserve it. A precious primeval heritage in a bustling city. Walk in the cool shade of old trees. Feel a kind of natural peace that only a rainforest can give. |
 The Peoples’ Chinatown tour || 9:30 am, 4 May 2014 Rediscover of the vibrancy of Chinatown at its fringes while learning of its illustrious and at times unsavory past. The locale of what is now known as Chinatown is the legacy of the 1823 Raffles-Jackson Singapore Town Plan. This neighbourhood has evolved but remained relevant today. |
 Burmese Roads Along Balestier || 4:00 pm, 4 May 2014 We will trace the Burmese roads along Balestier while being introduced to their namesakes and the social issues that surround them in present day Myanmar. These discussions will be interwoven with an exploration of the physical and social heritage of Balestier Road and stories of early Burmese immigrants to Singapore. The walk will end at the Burmese Buddhist temple in Tai Gin Road, a place where modern day Burmese immigrants have gathered for prayer and devotion since it was relocated |
