The driver of a Honda Civic, which had been in the news recently, has been arrested. The Chinese man, 24-year old undergraduate Quek Zhen Hao, was shown in two videos driving his Honda Civic car tailgating vehicles and then overtaking them before stepping on his brakes suddenly in two such separate incidents on Jan 29.
His arrest comes after the videos went viral and members of the public started to urge the police to take action against his dangerous driving.
Mr Quek later put out a video of his own, explaining why he did what he did.
Mr Quek’s arrest has prompted some to question why a cyclist who had also been riding recklessly and who had apparently threatened another driver on a busy road near VivoCity has not been similarly arrested.
In that incident, which occurred last October, a video of the incident showed a Caucasian cyclist “attempting to provoke a driver to a confrontation after riding recklessly on a busy Singapore road”, according to news reports.
The cyclist, who is only known as Keneth and an Australian, reportedly also behaved the same way in another incident involving a 41-year old woman driver near the Telok Blangah area in September last year as well, reported the New Paper.
The police was reported last October to be investigating the Vivocity incident.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, had reacted to the incident by posting the following comments on his Facebook page then:
“Instead of assigning blame, it is important for us to remember that we must be gracious and respect one another on the roads… when we demonstrate courtesy and empathy, our roads will be safer for everyone.” [See here.]
It is unclear how the investigation has progressed, or if any action will be taken against the cyclist.
