Submit Your Photos to End Violence Against Women!

Singapore Committee for UN Women Photography Competition

The recent UN Women campaign by Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai used real Google searches to highlight how gender inequality and widespread sexism still continues to exist around the world.

The prevalence of these shocking gender stereotypes highlight the need for women’s rights campaigns and support in the fight to end violence against women.

November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Rather than focus on women as purely victims of violence, the Singapore Committee for UN Women invites people to take this opportunity to celebrate the inherent strength and beauty in every woman.

In conjunction with continuing efforts to end violence against women, the Singapore Committee for UN Women will launch Sheroes – a photography competition that celebrates the everyday women in our lives as heroes. Anyone is eligible to submit photographs of a woman or girl in their life who inspires them – a wife, a mother, a boss, or a co-worker – the everyday Sheroes.

The Singapore Committee for UN Women is issuing a call to action to every individual in Singapore to challenge gender stereotypes by capturing images that the photographer hopes will raise awareness and celebrate the various roles women play in society. Voting to decide the top 10 images submitted will be held online and run from November 18th – November 25th. The campaign will culminate in a gallery exhibition of the top 10 images submitted, with the presentation and announcement of the Grand Prize to the winning photographer.

Call for submissions is now open till 25 November 2013. Entries can be submitted at facebook.com/SingaporeCommitteeForUnWomen.
