MEDIA RELEASE

Online contest to welcome The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Singapore

To celebrate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to Singapore from 11 to 13 September, the British High Commission in Singapore has launched a social media campaign to showcase the best of Britain in Singapore.

Photography enthusiasts will stand a chance to meet Their Royal Highnesses through the “Best of Britain in Singapore” Photography Contest. The contest will run for three weeks to garner photograph entries that best represents the UK’s presence in Singapore. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges which includes professional photographers, His Excellency Antony Phillipson, British High Commissioner to Singapore, and Mr Mark Howard, Director of the British Council in Singapore. Visit the British High Commission's Facebook page for participation details.

Foodies are encouraged to follow twitter.com/UKinSingapore and post their ideas about “What Singaporean dish should the Royal Couple eat?” by mentioning @UKinSingapore and using the hashtag #RoyalMenuSG. One of the most popular dishes will be selected and prepared for Their Royal Highnesses.

All Singapore residents are also invited to post their well-wishes to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the High Commission’s Facebook Notes.

Judith Slater, Acting High Commissioner, says:

“The UK and Singapore share a rich history and, we hope, an exciting future. The large British community is an integral part of Singapore’s rich and diverse population. The UK and Singapore contribute to each other’s successes, be they in business or the arts, sport or science. As we are both well-connected societies, we believe this online campaign is an apt way for us to build on and draw from this shared interest to celebrate jointly The Duke and Duchess’s visit and Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will also visit Malaysia, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu as part of the Royal Family’s tour around the world to commemorate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year. Those who follow our Facebook and Twitter pages will receive updates on Their Royal Highnesses’ programme in Singapore.
