PRESS RELEASE

In its inaugural screening in Singapore, Art21 will feature four one-hour programmes from the sixth and latest season of its broadcast repertoire. The Singapore Contemporary Young Artists (SCYA) will host these screenings at its studio in Goodman Arts Centre on 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th June at 730pm to 830pm.

9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th June at 130pm – 230pm specially for students. The film screening will include a short discussion after.

Art21 has established itself as the preeminent chronicler of contemporary art and artists, through its Peabody Award–winning biennial television series, Art in the Twenty-First Century.  The nonprofit organization has utilised the power of the digital media to introduce millions of people of all ages to contemporary art and artists and has created a new paradigm for teaching and learning about the creative process.

Hosting these Art21 screenings is SCYA’s first international collaboration. On why SCYA decided to screen these films in Singapore, Chairperson and Curator, Jacquelyn Soo said, “We are a young arts society dedicated to growing contemporary arts in Singapore. We see ourselves as a platform to nurture and increase the capacity of artists in Singapore who are keen to find like-minded individuals or collectives to pursue their interests in the arts.”

This event forms part of Art21 Access '12, a celebration of contemporary art and Art in the Twenty-First Century, Season Six, sponsored by Art21. We have included a brief synopsis of the programme below. For more information on art21 visit www.art21.org.
