Public Consultation on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)

You are invited to this public consultation on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD), jointly organised by MARUAH, a three-year-old human rights organisation, and the Disabled People’s Association (DPA), a 26 years old organisation.

Globally, there are a total of seven international treatises for states to ratify, yet Singapore has only ratified two – the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Committee on the Elimination of all Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).  Now Singapore is considering ratifying the CRPD. MARUAH would like to see both the disabled and abled communities come together to consciously look at the Articles of the CRPD and also look at areas of compliance and non-compliance which might lead to a no-reservation approach. Your support in attending and participating in this consultation will be instrumental in legitimising the discussions.

So join us for this consultation, where together we will inform ourselves on the rights as stated in the CRPD and ensure Singapore ratifies it with no reservations.

The programme is as follows:

v  Keynote Address by Mr Ron Chandran Dudley (DPA’s first President and 1st World Champion of Disabled People’s International (DPI)

v  Introduction to the CRPD document (i.e. the preamble, articles)
