The following is the response from Marine Life Park’s spokesperson to TOC’s article ‘RWS can impact youths by admitting mistake – Anti-dolphin hunt activist Ric O’ Barry‘ posted on our website today on 4 October 2011:

Our stand remains unchanged:  Mr Ric O’Barry has no jurisdiction in Singapore and his agenda as reported, is to release the dolphins.  We have long said that we believe that our dolphins will play a significant and meaningful role for marine conservation.  Bottlenose dolphins have thrived and propagated in human care.  They contribute immense knowledge and experience to marine mammal specialists, whom are using all that today to help dolphins, both in the wild and in facilities.

The Marine Life Park dolphins have also been in our care for three years now, and they are doing well.  Mr O’Barry himself is fully aware that the track record of dolphin reintroductions is patchy at best, and we will be gravely irresponsible to even consider that.

We respect divergent views and think the world of passionate animal lovers.  The top priority of our Marine Life Park team now is to deliver a facility that will make a significant contribution to marine conservation and research.   We are committed, confident and on track with the progress.  We will always welcome Acres to work with us on conservation programmes.  When the Marine Life Park opens next year, we believe we will have an oceanarium with an unwavering purpose, and it will make Singapore proud.
