Dear Friends,

Singapore is due for its first review on human rights at the Human Rights Council in Geneva next year. Civil Society is encouraged to participate in this process by submitting Shadow reports on how they perceive the State has met its obligations with regards to maintaining human rights.

MARUAH enabled a training workshop for CSOs in April this year with the help of the representative from the Human Rights Council office in Bangkok, the Office of the Commission on Human Rights Council. We are also regarded as the liaison CSO body for this shadow process by the same office.

MARUAH then liaised with various interested CSOs to produce a consolidated report which we are happy to share with CSOs on October 9th. Please see flyer for details.

We have also been in regular dialogue sessions with the State which has initiated a few discussions.

Our aims with this Consultation are as follows:

1. to share the report’s main points.
2. to have more CSOs/organisations participating in this process
3. to strengthen the coalition of CSOs for this human rights process

It is my hope that you will attend this discussion. Please do try to attend and so build up civil society participation in the process.

Many thanks

Best regards
Braema Mathi
