Following the success of the first Migration Film Festival in December 2007, Migrant Voices, a local community arts charity, is partnering The Substation to present the 2nd Singapore Migration Film Festival on Saturday, 11 September 2010. The films include documentaries examining labour policies, working conditions in Singapore and the impact of the global recession on migrant workers. The festival also features short films delving into the personal relationships and concerns of migrant workers.
The film festival will comprise 3 screening sessions featuring a total of 7 local short films (including Special Pass, the winner of the Best Documentary Award at the Singapore Short Film Awards 2010) and a feature film from South Korea. Filmmakers will even be present for talkback sessions after the local film screenings.
The film festival is intended to generate discussion on the complex issues of labour policies and migration and promote understanding of the multi-faceted migrant condition in Singapore and the region. It will also serve as a platform for local and international film-makers to showcase their work related to migrant worker issues. The festival will also see the launch of the Migrant Voices Films, an outfit which aims to document, archive and promote films relating to migrant workers for public education.

Migrant Voices is an arts charity that was registered in 15 April 2006. Leveraging on the arts with programmes including photography, theatre, oral history, storytelling, music and creative writing, Migrant Voices aims to provide an expressive platform for the migrant worker community, facilitate the inter-cultural exchange between migrant communities and the Singaporean society and develop a sense of community between Singaporeans, migrant professionals and migrant workers through shared experiences.
