DiaSpura is a speaker series and musical organized by the Singapore club at the University of Pennsylvania. Among those who attended the event were Singapore Ambassador to the US, Prof Chan Heng Chee (right), former Singapore solicitor-general Francis Seow (below), Colin Goh and Alfian Sa’at.

An excerpt from organiser Ming Jing’s report:

“What perhaps added a touch of controversy to our event was the presence of our 2nd keynote speaker, Mr. Francis Seow, currently a University Fellow in the Human Rights Program of the Harvard Law School, and also former solicitor-general of Singapore and current political dissident in exile here in the US.

In slow, measured, tones, Mr. Seow delivered an address about the control he believed former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew exerted, and still exerts, over the media in Singapore. The audience would probably have quizzed Mr. Seow a lot more had we not run out of time during the event; nevertheless, our other speakers and members of the audience certainly engaged him in interesting discussions about his experience in Singapore’s judicial system after the event came to a close.”

Here are some links to personal reports by several of those who attended the event.
