The electoral boundaries has been announced and the political parties are now working on which constituencies they would want to contest in and to avoid three corner fights wherever possible.

In view of potential conflicting interests, we understand their predicament. We wish them all the best in their discussions.

We would like to suggest that they should at least try to work on their common interests and jointly declare a common platform on issues, which affect Singaporeans. We have taken the liberty to come up with the draft below to make it easier for them.

Cost of Living

If elected we will strongly resist any increase in prices of essential services such as public transport, government schools and tertiary institutions fees, polyclinics and hospital fees and electricity and water prices.

We will fight against any increase in GST and we will campaign in Parliament to abolish GST in medical bills, educational fees and domestic electricity and water bills. We will fight to abolish these taxes because they are unfair.

We will campaign in Parliament to abolish means testing for medical bills. Means testing has contributed to the inefficiencies of the system as it has made it more complicated and costly to administer. More importantly, it is not fair to those who pay more taxes and now must pay more than others do for the same medical services.

Transparency and Accountability

We want to regain Singapore’s reputation for one of the best transport system in the world. If elected, we will work closely with LTA and the operators to find out the root cause of the problems in our public transport system. Being independent of the government gives us the advantage of finding solutions from different perspectives. We can only do so if we have the mandate from you through electing us.

We will resist strongly in Parliament any motion by the PAP to raise their ministers’ salaries, as already their salaries are not First World standards but out-of-this-world salaries.

Towards a Fairer and Prosperous Society

We are very concern about the increasing trend towards income inequality in Singapore. We feel very strongly about this issue and want very much to reduce the income inequality. We want to address this issue in Parliament by fostering a healthy debate on creating an ecosystem where the middle class can grow and prosper.

One of the salient factors affecting income inequality in Singapore is the dependency on foreign talent and labour. If elected, we will take a hands-on approach to work with the government to find the optimum foreign labour inputs for the domestic economy, which will grow the economy in a positive way for Singaporeans. We will endeavour to find, together with the government, the right balance of foreign labour inputs, which will lead to better wages and job opportunities for all of us who live here permanently.

We will campaign in Parliament to ensure that public housing is affordable by targeting the average prices of homes to be less than three times annual household income. This means that the owners can repay the housing loans within 15 years.

If you elect us, we promise not be quiet or passive in Parliament, we will not only just ask questions but also proactively make things happen.

We urge all non-PAP political parties to consider signing off this message together as a sign of unity.

I Love Singapore is an informal group of Singaporeans whose only “sin” is that they love their country very much. It is not a political party but a group of like-minded individuals.
