A fatal accident which took place at the junction of Jalan Sultan and Victoria Street on Wednesday (18 January) night claimed a life of a 53-year-old woman.
The accident involved a van and the pedestrian, in which the woman was pinned under the van and had to be extricated using hydraulic rescue equipment. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the paramedics.
Singapore Police force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told The Straits Times that they were alerted to the accident at around 11.50pm.
SCDF dispatched two fire bikes, one fire engine, one Red Rhino, an ambulance and a support vehicle to the scene.
St said it understood that the van was turning right from Jalan Sultan into Victoria Street. The van then knocked the pedestrian down.

 The 69-year-old van driver was arrested for causing death by a rash act.

Police investigations are ongoing.
Similar accident happened at the same place where eight people were injured in a road accident on 11 December.
A grey sedan was travelling along Victoria Street. It then crashed into a black MPV travelling on Jalan Sultan, toppling a traffic light and injuring a pedestrian.
