Ngurah Rai International Airport

A crew cabin of Singapore Airline (SIA) has been arrested by the Excise and Customs Office at the Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, Indonesia for possession of drugs.

Head of the Customs and Excise Ngurah Rai, Budi Harjanto, said that the cabin crew, identified as Goh Tiam Ann Desmond, was caught carrying one plastic bag containing 1.47 grams of crystal meth, one plastic bag containing two ecstasy pills weighing 1.01 grams and another plastic bag with two ecstasy pills weighing 1.08 grams.

The 42-year-old Singaporean citizen initially planned to spend 7 days of holiday in Bali. However, he was arrested upon arrival on Singapore Airlines flight SQ 948 at Ngurah Rai airport on Friday (30 September).

Budi said that the airport officers was suspicious as Goh was anxious while passing through the customs and excise desk. “He went on a green lane, this meant that he did not have to be checked. However, officers whose task was profiling passengers sensed something amiss. Therefore, further investigations were conducted,” Budi said.

Later, suspicious items were found inside his luggage during an X-ray. “When we checked, it was apparently a bong hidden inside piles of his clothes,” Budi added.

Officers then conducted a body search during which they reportedly found the drugs hidden inside a Louis Vuitton wallet. Then, the clerk did a urine test against Goh and the result came out positive that he had been consuming drugs.

“He admitted that he consumed the drugs and brought them from his country,” Budi added.

According to Indonesian law, Goh will be charged under Article 113 of the 2009 Narcotics Law, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment and Rp 10 billion (S$1,053,414) in fines.

Less than a month ago, another Singaporean was also arrested for possession of shabu and cocaine. Muhammad Faliq Din Nordin was arrested at a local post office when he was about to pick up the items, which was smuggled in a cup.

Police investigations against these two cases are still ongoing.
