In the media interview after the morning walkabout at Bukit Batok SMC on 3 May 2016, Singapore Democratic Party’s Secretary General and candidate for the Bukit Batok By-Election, Dr Chee Soon Juan said that he does not know who is he contesting with at this point with ministers from all around giving comments during this by-election.
He was replying to a question posed by a reporter who had asked him about his comments on Minister Tan Chuan Jin’s Facebook posting about the “Hobo” comment that Dr Chee had made on 1 May.
Dr Chee said that he did not want to dignify Mr Tan’s remarks by responding to it and said that he was becoming confused who his opponent is.
“Now I am getting very confused, I don’t know who my opponent is. I thought it was Mr Murali. It is turning up to be everyone else except for him. He is not saying anything and everyone else is saying it.”
Over the past few days of the election, ministers such as Ms Grace Fu, Heng Swee Keat and Tan Chuan Jin, Speaker of Parliament, Halimah Yacob, former Prime Minister, Goh Chok Tong have either commented on Dr Chee or made some remarks.
He then went on to ask the reporters if Murali said anything for him to comment on.
There was a moment of silence from the reporters.
The same reporter then asked if Dr Chee could comment on the healthcare co-op programme that Mr Murali has brought up in his campaign and Dr Chee replied, saying that SDP will address the question during the rally on Tuesday evening.
