A notice by the “management” of the Leisure Park Kallang mall is causing much unhappiness among members of the public and is going viral online.
In what is reported to be a notice posted on a glass door at the entrance to the mall, personnel in “NDP uniform” are disallowed from entering the mall.
In capital letters, it said:
“NO ENTRY TO ALL NDP UNIFORM PERSONNEL”
The words “ALL NDP UNIFORM PERSONNEL” were also underscored and emphasised.
The notice was signed off, also in capital letters:
‘BY ORDER OF THE MANAGEMENT, LEISURE PARK KALLANG”
The mall is owned by Jack Investment Pte Ltd.
“NDP” presumably refers to “National Day Parade”, and the uniform it speaks of refers probably to NSmen and others, including students from schools’ uniformed groups.
Performers and participants of this year’s parade have been rehearsing at the nearby Padang, where Singaporeans will celebrate the nation’s 50th year of independence.
The notice has angered members of the public who have taken to the Internet to express their disapproval. Some have called the action by the management un-patriotic, while others describe it as discriminatory and unappreciative of the “NDP personnel” who are practising for the nation’s celebration.
