The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) has made a police report against Mr Yang Yin, the 40-year old Chinese national and Singapore permanent resident who is embroiled in a legal tussle over the assets of an 87-year old woman he had befriended.
Mr Yang is being accused of making false claims about his association with the organisation.
Mr Yang had listed on his business card that he is a “Director of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce”, the SCCCI said in a statement on Monday.
On 4 September, the SCCCI replied to a query by website, TR Emeritus, on Mr Yang’s status with the organisation.
It said in its email reply:

“Mr Yang Yin is NOT a director of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry as claimed from his name card.
“Neither is his company a corporate member of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
“In fact, our Chamber has no association with Mr Yang Yin whatsoever.”

The organisation reiterated its point on Monday in a statement posted on its website:

“It has come to the SCCCI’s attention that an individual identifying himself as one Yang Yin has been representing himself as a “Director of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce” or “新加坡中华总商会理事”, including but not limited to handing out name cards containing the aforesaid position.”
“The SCCCI does not have any director or council member or member by the name of “Yang Yin”.
“A police report has been lodged and we will take action against anyone who abuses the name of SCCCI.”

The police have confirmed that a police report has been filed on the incident.
Separately, Mr Yang is believed to have also resigned from his position last Friday as a grassroots leader in Ang Mo Kio GRC.
He is reported to have said that it was “not appropriate” for him to stay on.
MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC, Intan Azura Mokhtar, had said that Mr Yang “[did] not hold any position” in the grassroots, although she too confirmed that he was a “grassroots leader” in the area.
Mr Yang’s legal battle for control of the S$40 million worth of assets belonging to Mdm Chung Khin Chun is currently before the courts.
Mdm Chung’s niece, Mdm Hedy Mok, had filed the application to strike out Mr Yang’s Lasting Power of Attorney which has enabled him to control Mdm Chung’s assets.
Mdm Chung, who had met Mr Yang while on a trip to Beijing in 2008, was earlier this year diagnosed with dementia.
