This September, Avant Theatre celebrates the glory of the Mahabharatha, one of the greatest Indian epics to have ever graced civilisation, through our inaugral Moksha Festival. A festival catering to pre-school children, primary to tertiary level students, families, friends and literary arts and theatre lovers at large, it will be celebrated over a week from 22nd September to 27 September at the Goodman Arts Centre. Activities are presented both in English and Tamil, comprising of storytelling, games, discourse, a rural bonfire of informal style and candid discussion. And of course, not forgetting our main highlight, the plays from our “Moksha Trilogy”.

The first two plays of the Moksha trilogy, “BHISHMA – The Grandsire” (2011) and “SAKUNI – Let the Game
Begin” (2012), both which was presented in English and Tamil return to our stage after successful tours in India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia while the final instalment, “STREE – The Voices Within” makes its Singapore premiere this year. Watch as legendary characters come alive in vivid colours and actions to tell their stories, reinterpreted in modern style & technique.

There are also activities for the children as they catch our storytellers weave their magic with classic stories from the epic and/or join our game masters in a battle of wits to win in the traditional Dice Game that started the Great Mahabharatha War.
If you’re a literary lover, than be sure to share the stage with our esteemed keynote speakers as they bring you through the myths and legends to seek their hold over the Indian social fabric. Immerse yourself in debates about prominent and predominant issues presented in the classic text and its various reincarnations.
